Notification and Glass Surprise

A Party Wall notice is handed to the neighbours and the first quote for sealed units is a pleasant surprise.
I served notice on the neighbours today. Not to evict them! Only to tell them what we are planning to do with our chimneys, as per the Party Wall Act.

I found loads of useful information online and have summarised it and linked to it in a feature in the Property Development section (see the link in sidebar). Anyway, it's just a case of waiting now. I'm really hoping that we can avoid the use (and cost) of party wall surveyors and just agree the work will be done according to the local council's Building Control Department wishes. I want a Completion Certificate to aid sale of the property anyway.

Also received quote back for the sealed units. I cannot believe how cheap these are, compared with uPVC Double Glazing. We haven't received a Double Glazing quote under £8500 largely because we have an enormous bay window at the front and back of the house. So that's four very large, structural windows and four very large sums of money. But the sealed units for fitting into the original frames, which are still in good condition, will only cost £1000 for the whole house. And, that price includes antiqued lead to the front of the house and low-e glass (as per Building Regs)! Suddenly our profit, which was looking a little slim, looks a lot healthier again. Part of me is pleased the uPVC came out so pricey, because I always wanted to retain the original character of the beautiful wood casement windows. The uPVC was only considered as a cheap (ho ho!) and quick alternative.
