The neighbours raise concerns about our chimney plans and reaching the drains proves a backbreaking experience.

What a tough first proper day. Firstly had to relieve myself of over £150 in B and Q just on soil pipe stuff, insulation, a few sockets and bit of cable. Actually, thats quite good value really.
The cost of the soil pipe was the biggest shock really. All those little bends and chambers and brackets and 'wot nots' really add up. And, I know I have some more stuff to buy yet too. I just wanted to concentrate on getting the waste out of the house and down underground to start with. Connecting to the drains is something I want to quiz Building Control about.
The really tough bit was breaking through all the crazy paving and 3inch of concrete underneath it where I need to lay my drains to connect to the existing clay pipe. Absolutely shattered after pounding it for hours just to get 1.5 metres along the back of the house.
Caught up with the neighbours this evening. I was just on my way round there to find out if there were any concerns or problems, as he was coming home from work. He said he wanted clarification of our plans and some assurances and was planning to write. Why he just didn't pop round and ask I don't know?! Anyway, I quickly drafted a new notification letter answering his concerns and dropped it round. We don't have time to wait for him to get around to writing!
