A morning on the tiles...

Back to work after a boozey Christmas, with a firm deadline and tiling to be done.
Right, so it was a back to work after a boozey Christmas break and New Year and after spending a small fortune on an engagement ring. Now we've a real deadline for this project; it has to be entirely completed by September, because Becca and I are getting married.

Started off with tiling the floor in the downstairs lavatory. It was my first attempt at floor tiling and it is a small space but a difficult shape, so I cut all the tiles first then laid them all at once. It made it very easy and relaxed, because there was no time pressure without adhesive and all tiles could be adjusted to get the relative level and position of each just right. I can highly recommend using a standard hand platform tile cutter for the whole cuts and a mini angle grinder with a stone cutting disc for removing shapes.

Rapid set adhesive was used so the floor could be walked on after a few hours, during which time I cut all the skirting and had my lunch. Next it was on to the wall tiles - just a geometric pattern to form a splash back for the sink.

Next day the tiles on the floor and behind the sink were grouted in. Then it was out with the decorator's filler. Running a bead around all the joins between walls and ceiling and walls and stair treads and risers, then running a damp finger along makes all the difference to the ultimate finish! As soon as the filler was dry, the room was painted - just a guide coat in watered-down white. Wow it's really starting to come together. There's only the final fitment of the toilet, taps and skirting, lighting and accessories to go.
