White good waste

House! The arrival of the fridge completes the full set of damaged white goods.
Well, it's been a while since my last post. Sorry about that, but when you haven't got a kitchen, well you just want to get it sorted ASAP.

What's happened? Well the fridge arrrived and guess what? It's damaged. So we need a replacement. We had to have a second freezer too - can this just be bad luck? It's annoying because you can't finish anything. Still Trade Appliances - who supplied the freezer - were very fast with an exchange, so let's hope QED are as good.

At least the cooker, hob and hood are OK. All Baumatic stainless steel pieces. They look great, let's just hope they work OK.

Opted for a built-under oven, because that's the only way you can get a double oven under the worktop. Fitting it means leaving a whole 605mm wide and fitting runners (supplied with the cooker) to the cabinets either side. Just the one problem. There's no cabinet at the required mounting height, it's at skirting level! Had to screw a batton to the unit underside and then a piece of the packing chipboard onto that. Thankfully it's a draw unit, so the screws won't show.

What else have we done...coving. Love that job, have a little bit of experience at it with putting up the really decorative Victorian stuff. My tips: forget the tacks - you don't need them; Don't buy the ready mixed adhesive. I have put up 10inch deep coving without tacks. All you need is the suction of a sloppy paste mix, which is why you need to mix your own. More coving info coming to the tips section soon.

Window sill. Made out of two bits of 1 x 6 plank recycled from the old wardrobes. Rounded the front and side edges off with the router. I cut the join at 45 degrees and bedded both bits into a strong mortar mix with a few short screws half screwed into the underside to aid adhesion. With a bit of filler and a touch with the sandpaper, I think it will be OK.

Oh, and the sink and dishwasher waste needed sorting. Sods law that of the two waste pipes already their, neither were useable. One fouled the cupboard side, the other fouled the diswasher. These integrated dishwashers need the full depth of the worktop. You can't put anything behind them at all. So out came the SDS drill - god it's a life saver - and in no time I had a third hole, directly behind the newly fitted sink. A spiggot trap and hole in the back of the cupboard will allow the dishwasher to share the waste.

At last the end is in sight. Only the spots, tiling, decorating and cupboard showends to go!
