All's quiet on the kitchen front

The need to bring in some bacon and prepare for the next onslaught reduces progress to a crawl.
Not much to report this week. I have actually had to do some real work - especially with the Bank of England going all hawkish on us. Quarter of a percent - that's over £100 a month more interest to pay on our mortgages.

Only a bit of fiddling here and there done on the kitchen. Just fixing snags really. But, big preparations made for my father's arrival. He is a professional builder with 30-plus years under his belt who's coming over to see the structural work of removing our chimneybreasts and supporting the remaining stacks.

I'll have to do all the hard physical, since father's well into his sixities and recovering from a heart attack (smoking-related - give it up!). He is just going to give me the peace of mind of knowing I've interpreted the structural engineer's plans correctly.

Plenty of purchasing going on; everything up to building and plumbing-in the en-suite should be scattered about the place now. Relying more and more on Screwfix for consumables these days. You can't beat them on towel rails - a large ladder style one for £100 - as well as all the plumbing fittings, screws, joining plates, adhesives, etc.

Have also informed Building Control and paid my £180 fee. Next week we'll find out what they think about the timber joists under the chimneys. We had to get a structural engineer to prove that we didn't need 8 metres of steel, as requested by our Building Control Officer. Is he going to accept he's wrong or dispute the engineer's recommendations? Tune in next time to find out!
